Have you ever wondered how and why your computer operates as it does? Why does it turn on and load the operating system? It is working because of the computer software that is programmed and installed in it. The program was designed to run your computer and any other program that is on it. How about your car? What makes your car run? Not just the battery and gasoline or diesel. There is a computer in your car that makes it run as it should.

Software comes into play when you play video games, listen to CDs, watch DVDs on the television. You also come into contact outside, in shops and their cash registers or subways. Songs that you download from the Internet need software so that they can be played back either on the computer system or another electronic device.

Computers are practically anywhere these days: In cars, cell phones, video game systems and most other electronic devices. These devices would not work without the software that was specifically programmed for them. Software tells the device what to do and what to offer to the user.

The operating system that came with your notebook is a computer software. All computers come with an operating system, such as Windows aka XP, Vista, 2000, etc. Other OS’s are Linux and Mac. Without an operating system, your computer will not operate as it should. It may turn on, but it won’t run properly.

There are so many different PC software today to do just about anything you want to on your computer. Some computer software names are Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Notepad or Winamp.

Desktop software comes in many different forms. It comes preinstalled in the computer’s bios and operating system. Additional software programs can be downloaded from the Internet or installed from CDs or DVDs. Each software adds new functionality to the electronic device.

There are programs that will diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix problems that may occur with your computer, without the help of a computer tech.

Software programs have specific requirements. These are divided into hardware requirements, e.g. a certain amount of computer memory and software requirements, e.g. a specific operating system. It may specify that the program is only for Windows 2000 or XP, but most programs are available to run with Vista, Mac, and Linux now. Microsoft offers free trials for a lot of their desktop software so that you can try it out before purchasing a copy of it.

Nearly everywhere we go or whatever we do, there is PC Software running something.
